DESERT CANCER FOUNDATION OF ARIZONA HOLDS TENTH ANNUAL EDUCATIONAL AND AWARDS LUNCHEON OCTOBER 25, 2007

On October 25, the Desert Cancer Foundation of Arizona will honor an individual or an organization with the DCFA’s coveted Linda Rainford Award at their tenth annual “LEARNING, LOVING AND LIVING WITH CANCER” Education and Awards Luncheon to be held at the Crowne Plaza San Marcos Golf Resort, in the Pavilion, from 11:30 AM-1:30 PM.

The Linda Rainford Award honors an outstanding recipient in the field of cancer education, prevention and/or treatment. Linda was a kindergarten teacher who took early retirement after her cancer diagnosis and moved to Chandler. She attended classes when not in chemotherapy and educated herself with all available resources about the challenges of a cancer diagnosis, consistently educating those around her. She never gave up hope and saw her diagnosis as an opportunity for growth and spirituality. Linda was actively involved in the Desert Cancer Foundation’s Advisory Board.

Dr. Edgar Hernandez, surgeon and Chief Medical Advisor of the DCFA and Dr. Eric Olyejar, radiation oncologist and member of the DCFA’s Medical Advisory Board, will present “Breast Conservation Surgery” and “MammoSite Brachytherapy Treatment” as the educational component of the event.

Guest Emcee is Mike Chamberlin, News Anchor, CBS 5. Guest Speaker is Gary Cruz, Sports Anchor, CBS 5.

The mission of the Desert Cancer Foundation of Arizona is “to provide cancer education and treatment resources to the uninsured of Arizona.” Proceeds from this event and other projects are used for those purposes.
