Carole Allen Weishaar, Founding President of The Desert Cancer Foundation of Arizona has accepted $5000 from Royal Caribbean Cruise Line on behalf of the DCFA, for placing second in an international competition sponsored by RCCL for professional travel agents. Weishaar competed with thousands of others in the stiff competition, and came in second. The winner was named “Godmother” of a new cruise ship, “Liberty.”

The “Godmother, Liberty of the Seas” contest began in August 2006 when a colleague of Weishaar’s nominated her for the title of “Godmother.” In January 2007, the Top 100 contestants were announced, and Weishaar traveled to Miami where she was then announced one of the Top Ten. Nine interviews followed with a distinguished panel of 19 judges, representing the media, travel industry and RCCL executives onboard a re-launch of their ship,” Majesty of the Seas.” On February 28, Mrs. Weishaar was notified that she was in the Top 3. Online voting was then held, with the public and customers of the finalists selecting the winner.

The search for a deserving travel agent to be “Godmother” to the new ship was based on the merit of service to one’s community, as well as excellence in the travel industry. Weishaar chose The Desert Cancer Foundation of Arizona to be the recipient of her cash award from RCCL, as runner-up in the competition.

The new ship, “Liberty of the Seas,” launches May 18. Weishaar and her husband, Ray will be present at the naming ceremony and christening of the new ship.

Supporters of The Desert Cancer Foundation of Arizona will see an enlarged replica of the $5000 check presented to the organization on Weishaar’s behalf at the organization’s Spring Fund Raiser, a Wine Tasting event to be held on May 6, 2007 from 4-7 PM at Patsy Grimaldi’s Coal Brick-Oven Pizzeria, southwest corner of Alma School and Queen Creek Roads, in Chandler. Proceeds will be used to further the mission of the DCFA, providing education and prevention information and treatment resources for uninsured cancer patients and their families in the state of Arizona, and to build an endowment for the Foundation. Weishaar has designated her RCCL-awarded funds to be used for outreach programs of the DCFA.
